NGSConnex User Guide

Accessing NGSConnex from Outside the United States or US Territories

We have security protocols to safeguard PHI and PII any time someone accesses the NGSConnex portal from outside the United States. If you access NGSConnex from outside the United States or a U.S. Territory the authorized official for the provider organization(s) you have access to in the portal must approve use of their information from off-shore by completing the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) enrollment form.

  1. When you select a provider from the ‘Select a Provider’ panel in NGSConnex the following message will display when the following occurs:
    • We detect that you have logged into NGSConnex from outside the US or a US territory.
    • If the Authorized Official for the provider organization selected has not yet disclosed and approved use of their provider information to be accessed from outside the United States.

“This PTAN/NPI is not authorized to access information from outside the United States. We will contact the AO to determine if they want NGSConnex to allow access to their information from an off-shore user. You will not be able to complete any transactions in NGSConnex from off-shore for this provider or any provider account unless the AO has authorized access. This message will not display if the AO decides to authorize off-shore transactions for the provider selected.”

  1. If you receive this message, we will notify the Authorized Official (AO) that we detected you are attempting to access information for their provider organization from outside the US.
  2. You won’t be able to complete transactions and you’ll continue to receive this message until the authorized official approves your access via the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) enrollment form.

Note: Your access will be reinstated upon approval from the authorized official. Please work with the authorized official for status of your access. The Provider Contact Center will not be able to assist with authorizing or approving your access.

The authorized official is the person(s) authorized to sign the certification statement on provider enrollment applications.

  • For individual practitioners, the actual provider is the only authorized official.
  • For organizations, an authorized official is reported on Section 6 on the provider enrollment application and is defined as an appointed official (for example, chief executive officer, chief financial officer, general partner, chairman of the board, or direct owner) to whom the organization has granted the legal authority to enroll it in the Medicare Program, to make changes or updates to the organization’s status in the Medicare Program, and to commit the organization to fully abide by the statutes, regulations, and program instructions of the Medicare Program.
