Why PECOS? PECOS stands for Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System web application. Each year, providers submit thousands of paper CMS-855 applications for one or more reasons, including establishing a practice, making a change to an existing practice, or joining a group practice. CMS.gov must process the applications received from health care providers, physicians, nonphysician practitioners and suppliers for enrollment in the Medicare Program; and, whenever an application or change to existing provider-file information occurs, National Government Services must be notified to ensure you are reimbursed the proper Medicare payment for services furnished. To streamline the Medicare enrollment process, CMS implemented PECOS. Learn more at https://www.cms.gov.
